At a glance

  • Strengths: You come across as steady, warm and quietly capable. People tend to trust you, and the work you do in the world often carries real visibility. You have a strong sense of right and wrong, a love of learning, and a mind that is quick to find the words a situation needs.
  • Areas to reflect on: A lot of your energy may go into giving, behind the scenes or far from home, and it is worth noticing whether you leave enough for yourself. You can take on other people's difficulties as projects to solve, and rest is not always easy for you.
  • The period now: This stretch traditionally favours clear communication, earning through your own skills, and widening your circle of friends and contacts. It is a good time to speak up for what you have built and to let it be seen.

Looking back

Moon period, 15 Aug 1990 – 13 Sep 1995 (ages 0–5). The Moon in your chart is exalted, meaning especially strong. Its period is often remembered as an early childhood of comfort and closeness with your mother.

Mars period, 13 Sep 1995 – 12 Sep 2002 (ages 5–12). Mars rules your home (4th house) and your beliefs, teachers and father (9th), and sits in its own sign. These years are traditionally linked with a settled home base, a growing love of learning, and strong guidance from elders. The quieter sub-periods mostly carry the same tone.

Rahu period, 12 Sep 2002 – 12 Sep 2020 (ages 12–30). Rahu, the shadow point of ambition, sits in your 6th house of effort, competition and daily routine. This long stretch is often a time of working hard to overcome obstacles and of proving yourself through persistence. Several sub-periods stand out:

  • Jupiter, 26 May 2005 – 19 Oct 2007 (ages 14–17): often a time of study, ideas and wider horizons.
  • Saturn, 19 Oct 2007 – 25 Aug 2010 (ages 17–20): traditionally a disciplined, demanding phase in studies, where seriousness was asked of you early.
  • Mercury, 25 Aug 2010 – 14 Mar 2013 (ages 20–22): linked with first earnings, speaking skills and new contacts.
  • Venus, 1 Apr 2014 – 1 Apr 2017 (ages 23–26): Venus rules your career (10th) and sits in the house of distant places. This is often a time of career beginnings, sometimes away from where you grew up.
  • Moon, 24 Feb 2018 – 25 Aug 2019 (ages 27–29): with the Moon strong in your career house, often a phase of recognition and public standing.

Jupiter period, from 12 Sep 2020 (age 30). Its first sub-period, Jupiter itself (to 31 Oct 2022), is traditionally reflective and inward-looking. Saturn followed (31 Oct 2022 – 13 May 2025, ages 32–34). Saturn rules your 7th house of partnership and your 6th house of work and health habits, so that phase often brings serious attention to close relationships and daily responsibilities.

Why this interpretation

Your Lagna (rising sign, which shapes your outlook and how you meet the world) is Simha, Leo. Your Moon is in Vrishabha, Taurus, in the nakshatra (lunar mansion) Rohini. Rohini is traditionally linked with warmth, creativity and an eye for beauty and comfort. Three signatures lead the chart.

1. An exalted Moon in the 10th house. The house of career and public life holds the strongest possible Moon. Tradition links this with being seen as caring and dependable in your work, and with a career that involves people or the public. The Moon also rules your 12th house, which ties your work to distant places, service or institutions.

2. Four planets in the 12th house, led by an exalted Jupiter. The 12th is the house of foreign lands, spiritual life, giving and rest. Gathered there are your Lagna lord, the Sun (your sense of self), Venus (lord of career) and Ketu (detachment). This is why the reading speaks of giving behind the scenes and of needing rest. Jupiter here rules your 5th (creativity, learning) and 8th (transformation, research). It is often read as protective wisdom that works quietly, and a strong pull towards spiritual or far-reaching pursuits.

3. Mars in its own sign in the 9th house. For a Simha Lagna, Mars is the yogakaraka, the single most helpful planet. It rules both the 4th and the 9th. In its own sign in the house of dharma (one's guiding principles), it is traditionally linked with conviction, a love of learning, and a stable home.

Mercury in your Lagna, ruling income (2nd) and gains and friendships (11th), adds the quick, articulate mind.

HousePlanetsWhat it traditionally means
1st (Simha)MercuryArticulate, thoughtful presence; income and networks tied to your own skills
5th (Dhanu)Saturn (retrograde)Serious, patient approach to learning and creative work
6th (Makara)RahuDrive to overcome obstacles; ambition through effort and routine
9th (Mesha)Mars (own sign)Strong principles, mentors, higher learning
10th (Vrishabha)Moon (exalted)Caring public image; visible, people-centred work
12th (Karka)Sun, Jupiter (exalted), Venus, KetuService, spirituality, foreign links; a need for rest and retreat

The period you are in

You are in the Jupiter mahadasha (major period), running 12 Sep 2020 – 12 Sep 2036. Within it you are in the Mercury antardasha (sub-period), from 13 May 2025 to 19 Aug 2027.

Jupiter, exalted in your 12th and ruling your 5th and 8th, sets the backdrop. These years are traditionally about deepening, meaning that learning, inner growth and generosity count for more than outward show.

Mercury sits in your Lagna and rules your 2nd and 11th houses. It brings that inner growth out into the open through your voice, your skills and your networks. This sub-period is often associated with:

  • earning through your own expertise, and clearer handling of family resources
  • writing, teaching, presenting or negotiating
  • friendships and professional contacts that open doors
  • a stronger sense of your own identity

From 19 Aug 2026 to 21 Dec 2026, a short Rahu sub-phase (the smallest level of the dasha) touches your 6th house. It may bring extra workload or a competitive push. Steady daily habits help you meet it well.

The Ketu antardasha begins on 19 Aug 2027. With Ketu in your 12th, that phase traditionally turns you inward again, towards reflection and simplifying. Until then, use the Mercury years to put your knowledge into words and share it. If you wish, a traditional support is offering green leafy food or study materials to those in need on Wednesdays, Mercury's day.

What is a kundli?

A kundli, or janam kundli, is the Vedic birth chart: a map of where the Sun, Moon, planets and rising sign (lagna) stood at the moment and place you were born. Jyotish reads your temperament, strengths and the timing of life's periods from it. Families have long kept a kundli for every child and consulted it for marriages, ceremonies and big decisions.

How to make your kundli online

Sign up on Vamshavriksha and say yes when asked whether you would like your Kundli. Enter your date of birth, your time of birth as exactly as you know it, and your place of birth. Confirm it is you with Google sign-in, and your chart is cast with a written birth chart reading. If your birth time is approximate, mark it so: the reading will say which parts depend on it.

Kundli or jathakam: choose what to call it

The same chart is called a kundli in Hindi-speaking India and a jathakam in Telugu, Tamil, Kannada and Malayalam homes. Vamshavriksha asks which you prefer and uses that name everywhere, from the chart page to your monthly email.

Kundli Compatibility for couples

Kundli Compatibility reads a married couple's two charts together: Moon signs, nakshatras, the traditional kootas, Mangal dosha, and the dasha periods each of you is in. Instead of a 36-point score, you get an interpretation of what you share, where you may differ, practices for a harmonious life, and a timeline of the years ahead together.

Frequently asked questions

What is a kundli?

A kundli (कुंडली, also spelled kundali, and called janam kundli or janam patrika) is a Vedic birth chart: the positions of the Sun, Moon, planets and the rising sign (lagna) at the exact moment and place you were born, drawn across the twelve houses. Jyotish reads your nature, strengths and the timing of life's periods (dashas) from it.

How do I get my kundli online for free?

Sign up on Vamshavriksha, say yes to "Would you like your Kundli?", and enter your date, time and place of birth. Confirm it is you with Google sign-in, and your chart is cast with a written birth chart reading. It is free, with no paid reports.

What details do I need to make a kundli?

Your date of birth, your time of birth as exactly as you know it, and your place of birth. The place gives the latitude, longitude and time zone the chart is cast for.

What if I do not know my exact birth time?

Mark the time as approximate. The lagna (rising sign) changes about every two hours, so houses counted from it can shift. Your Moon sign and nakshatra usually stay the same, and dasha dates move by a few months for each hour of uncertainty. Readings say which parts rest on the birth time.

Is a kundli the same as a jathakam?

Yes. Kundli is the name used across North and West India; jathakam (or jatakam) is used in Telugu, Tamil, Kannada and Malayalam. It is the same birth chart. On Vamshavriksha you choose what to call it and that name is used everywhere, including emails.

Which system does Vamshavriksha use?

The sidereal zodiac with the Lahiri (Chitrapaksha) ayanamsa and Vimshottari dasha periods, as most Indian astrologers and panchangams do. Planet positions are calculated astronomically for your birth time and place.

What readings do I get?

A birth chart reading (your nature, strengths and the periods you have lived through), the year ahead, and the month ahead, each written from your chart. The month ahead can come by email on the 1st of every month, and you can unsubscribe any time.

Can I check kundli compatibility with my spouse?

Yes, for married couples in your family tree. Kundli Compatibility reads both charts together: what you share, where you may differ, how to live in harmony and the years ahead together. It leans on interpretation rather than a 36-point guna score.

Can I see my family members' kundlis?

Yes. Your kundli lives in your family tree, so you can see the charts of your spouse, parents and children who have birth details. Anyone who has verified their own profile decides whether family can see theirs.

Is my birth data private?

Birth details are visible only to the person, their close family and the editors of their family tree. When you share a reading on WhatsApp, birth details are left out unless you choose to include them.
